BESLAN (North Ossetia), September 1 (RIA Novosti) - Police in the North Caucasus town of Beslan, which Thursday marks the first anniversary of the terrorist atrocity at a local school, have detained a correspondent working for Radio Liberty.

Yury Bagrov was taken to a local police station to explain the aim of his visit to Beslan, said Alan Doyev, a spokesman for the North Ossetian Interior Ministry.

According to Doyev, the journalist was detained because he had no accreditation.

The North Ossetian authorities requested that all journalists arriving in the republic to cover events dedicated to the Beslan tragedy obtain accreditation. Interior Ministry officials said journalists working without accreditation would be detained for questioning.
