MOSCOW, July 8. (RIA Novosti)-The favorite to win in Kyrgyzstan's presidential elections is set to miss the last televised debate on the final day of campaigning, a spokesman said Friday.
Acting President Kurmanbek Bakiyev, who is also the country's prime minister, apologized to voters and the debate's organizers, press secretary Avazbek Atakhanov said, but he had to attend a meeting elsewhere in the country.
The spokesman praised the televised debates. "We believe that the majority of the politically active population watched the presidential candidates [on television]," he said.
The final televised debate follows similar events on July 4, 5 and 7. All six candidates appeared on television (two per debate). The election will be held on July 10.
