MOSCOW, June 23 (RIA Novosti) - Russian special services are seeing a growing trend in professional terrorists, said a spokesman for the Antiterrorist Center of the CIS countries at an international conference here Thursday.

"Today we see a growing professionalism of terrorists and their activities become an income source from blood and sufferings of innocent people. Foreign aid of rich sponsors plays a big role in this," the center's head Alexander Popov said.

According to Popov, terrorist acts are carried out under religious, national, social-economic and public-political slogans.

"Neurolinguistic programming and brainwashing techniques are used more and more often today to train terrorists," he said. "Veterans of local wars, youth and intelligentsia are on the road to terrorism. Female kamikazes are a mass trend."

Ten years ago it was hard to imagine a young educated woman from a well-off family as a suicide bomber, but now it is the norm, he said.

According to Popov, terrorist leaders are abreast of cutting-edge innovations using the newest technologies and modern weapons.

"We are facing an appearance of completely new forms of technological terrorism, first of all, in cybernetic form," Popov said.

He said that today the most important condition for combating terrorism is the unity and coordination of actions of all antiterrorist activity.

"One of the practical instruments for the provision of the above-mentioned condition is the interdepartmental state structure - national antiterrorist commissions that accumulate and coordinate efforts of all subjects combating terrorism," Popov said.
