TEHRAN, June 13, (RIA Novosti, Nikolai Terekhov) -- Iran's Supreme National Security Council promises to arrest those responsible for recent explosions.

"These terrorist acts show that the dirty hands of the Islamic order's opponents and the Iranian nation's enemies are once again smeared with blood. They are trying to destabilize the national situation and to thwart the June 17, 2005 presidential elections," the Supreme National Council said today.

"All security forces and law-enforcement agencies were promptly mobilized on orders from President Mohammad Khatami. An emergency command center was established and expert teams sent to different regions," its document notes.

"We will soon expose and arrest the culprits, informing the population about investigation results," the SNSC said.

Several people suspected of staging explosions in Qum a week ago were arrested. No one was hurt in that attack.

A series of explosions took place in Ahwaz and Tehran in the last 24 hours. Four explosions reportedly killed eight in Ahwaz, wounding another 75. Five people died and three more were hurt in three Tehran blasts. Two people were killed in Tehran, official sources say.

Iranian authorities think the situation is being destabilized on the eve of presidential elections. They accuse terrorist groups that came from Iraq with US military support, warning about other possible outrages.

No one has claimed responsibility so far.
