MOSCOW, June 10 (RIA Novosti) - Nikolai Bordyuzha, the secretary general of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), reported to Russian president Vladimir Putin on the activity of the organization, which comprises Russia, Belarus, Armenia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan. Notably, he reported on Operation Channel, conducted to cut short Afghan drug trafficking. Apart from the CSTO members, Uzbekistan, Iran and Azerbaijan were involved in it. "We tried to model and take practical measures on the anti-drug security belt along the northern borders of Afghanistan," Bordyuzha said. "We succeeded in doing this, in principle, and the results we achieved show that such joint steps were efficient."

Operation Channel was supervised by the Russian state drug control service. Practically all the law enforcement agencies of the six states took part in it. The last stage involved representatives of Uzbekistan, Iran and Azerbaijan, he added.

In the past year, attention in strengthening the counter-terrorist potential of the CSTO member-states was focused on personnel training. Bordyuzha reported on the conclusion of the work on an agreement on personnel training, which was approved by the CSTO constituent bodies and would be submitted to the presidents of the CSTO member-states at a Collective Security Council session due on June 23.

"We are beginning to train personnel for all the CSTOmember-states on a privileged, gratis basis", Bordyuzha said.

The training of representatives of the executive bodies of the CSTO countries on security problems will be organized on the basis of the Academy of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, he said.

Apart from that, the training of specialists in conducting peacekeeping activities and combating drug trafficking and terrorism was organized jointly with the Russian interior ministry at the ministry's training center.

Bordyuzha also reported that the agreement on a privileged regime of military-technological cooperation with the CSTO member-states was really working.

"Apart from Russia, the mechanism of implementing the agreement on a privileged regime of military-technological cooperation was set up in Belarus. Such steps are also being taken in other states," Bordyuzha added.

All the necessary normative documents, including at the level of governments, have been fully prepared in Russia and Belarus, in other countries they are being drafted or have been regulated, he added.
