BRUSSELS, June 9 (RIA Novosti) - NATO does not dramatize contradictions with Russia on the international investigation into the recent turmoil in the Uzbek city of Andizhan.

NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer said this after a session of the Russia-NATO Council at the level of defense ministers in Brussels.

Although Russia comes out against this investigation, NATO is ready to consider its position, Scheffer said.

NATO will stick to its position on the necessity to carry out an international investigation into the turmoil.

On arriving in Brussels this morning, Russian Defense Minister Sergei Ivanov said, "Russia comes out against the international investigation. We have irrefutable evidence of a foreign trace in these events."

Uzbekistan is a sovereign country, he said. The Uzbek Prosecutor's Office and authorities should carry out the investigation. The Prosecutor's Office launched criminal proceedings in the attempt to overthrow the constitutional system and the parliament set up a special commission to investigate the unrests, Ivanov added.

Scheffer hailed the signing of the Russian-Georgian agreement on the withdrawal of Russian bases and came out for the implementation of other Istanbul agreements, for instance, on the pullout of Russian ammunition and military hardware from Transdniestria.

The secretary general said he would discuss Russia-NATO cooperation with the Russian leadership during his visit to Moscow on June 23-24. This cooperation is currently developing at the practical level, he added.

According to Scheffer, the sides exchange information on the control over the airspace and carry out peacekeeping operations and the anti-terrorism operation Active Endeavor in the Mediterranean.
