TBILISI, May 31 (RIA Novosti) - The probe into former prime minister Zurab Zhvaniya's death made a stir at a plenary session of the Georgian parliament on Tuesday.

Parliamentarian Bezhan Gunava particularly questioned the competence of investigators, who, in his words, were inclined to accept the hypothesis of an accident and denied Zhvaniya's possible murder. Gunava was supported by representatives of the Right Opposition faction, conservatives and the Republican Party.

Speaker of the Georgian parliament Nino Burdzhanadze rejected Gunava's request to question the prosecutor general and the minister of defense at the plenary session and declined his proposal to set up a parliamentary commission to investigate in the matter.

Burdzhanadze said that the reason of her refusal was that the investigation had not been finished yet, and information, if made public, might do irreparable damage to the investigation into the circumstances of Zhvaniya's death.

In their turn, representatives of the parliamentary majority, Zhvaniya's friends and colleagues Mikhail Machavariani and Khatuna Gogorishvili assured parliamentarians that the investigation would answer all the questions that had occurred and asked them not to trade on the matter.
