KIBARTAI (LITHUANIA), May 26 (RIA Novosti) - Russia and Lithuania solved a number of important problems of the Kaliningrad (the Russian exclave on the Baltic Sea) transit, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said after the talks with his Lithuanian counterpart Antanas Valionis.

"We are satisfied with the results of the talks. We believe they will promote solution of certain problems, simplify contacts between our citizens and bolster Russian-Lithuanian business cooperation," Lavrov told journalists.

According to him, the sides achieved agreement on easing veterinary control procedures. "We also confirmed readiness to guarantee efficiency of passenger transit. This may help us solve the remaining problems," the Russian minister said.

Lavrov expressed hope that Russia and Lithuania would settle cargo transit linked with financing of guarantees and insurance.

A number of bilateral documents were signed following the talks, namely, a protocol on the intergovernmental commission and a joint statement, the minister added.

In his words, the sides discussed other bilateral problems "with focus on further cooperation on the Kaliningrad transit issues."

We discussed not only the current problems of the Kaliningrad transit but also "problems which may emerge prior to Lithuania's entry to the Schengen zone," Lavrov said.
