SARATOV, May 18 (RIA Novosti, Erik Batuyev) - Chief of Russia's General Staff Yuri Baluyevsky says that President Bush will not admit the militarization of outer space.

"I am sure that neither the US Air Forces, nor the Pentagon determine the country's military policy. Generally-acknowledged international norms, signed by heads of all the leading powers, rule out the militarization of outer space," Baluyevsky said. This was his comment on the New York Times publication about the military pressing the White House for a regulation that would allow to place strategic weapons on orbit.

This issue was repeatedly discussed in the UN, and not a single state has announced it violated the moratorium on militarizing outer space, Baluyevsky noted.

"This is an issue of the national level, and it seems to me that the US will be reasonable not to follow certain military," Baluyevsky underlined.

Yuri Baluyevsky arrived in Saratov to take part in a solemn ceremony on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Military Institute and grant a prize of the Russian Ministry of Defense to the staff for valor, courage and high military skills.
