MOSCOW, May 5 (RIA Novosti) - Moscow meetings of the Mideastern quartet will focus on normal conditions of Israel's withdrawal from the Gaza Strip and some West Bank settlements, official spokesman for the Russian Foreign Ministry Alexander Yakovenko told RIA Novosti.

The quartet involving Russia, the UN, the European Union and the United States will meet in Moscow on May 9.

"The withdrawal of troops and settlements should be final and coordinated with Palestinians. It should lead to the total cessation of the occupation of the above-mentioned territories," Yakovenko noted.

In his opinion, the sides should stick to their obligations - the observation of cease-fire, reforms of the Palestinian national administration, resolute measures against terrorism, further transfer of West Bank settlements under Palestinian control and the release of the second group of Palestinian prisoners.

International intermediaries will discuss reinforcement of international assistance to Palestine to improve socio-economic situation on its territory. "Palestinian people should realize that the progress in international agreements has positive influence on their living standards," the official spokesman stressed.

Speaking about security issues, Alexander Yakovenko noted that Moscow deems it necessary to continue helping the Palestinian leadership solve these problems. According to him, Russia intends to render technical assistance to provide security of relevant Palestinian structures and train their personnel.
