CAIRO, April 20 (RIA Novosti's Igor Kuznetsov) - Circumstances of the death of Russian divers in Egypt have become known.

The RIA Novosti correspondent has learnt from witnesses of the tragedy that on April 14 a group of 15 Russians boated towards the Abu Ramad island in the Red Sea.

Ten of them were novices guided by a local instructor and an experienced Russian scuba diver from St.Petersburg. Four divers from that city had international certificates, had earlier come to Hurgada five to six times each and made independent deep dives.

Yelena Myasnikova, who was diving in pair, developed hypoxia, or nitrogen intoxication. In this condition divers make uncontrolled actions. Myasnikova tore off her gas mask.

Seeing she was in danger, two divers hurried to help and quickly brought her to the surface. They did not notice that air bubbles were not coming out of her mouth. Rapid decompression broke her lungs.

The first diver remained underwater. The arriving fifth diver, who was experienced enough, went down and did not go out either. The two sunken bodies of Anton Kolchev and Sergei Moiseenko have not been found.

Last February three divers from Italy died under similar circumstances.
