"All political forces of Iraq, including the patriotically minded opposition, as well as the neighboring countries, members of the Security Council, and the main donors of Iraq should be the core of this conference," said Mr. Lavrov.
In the opinion of the Russian Foreign Minister, the holding of the conference could bring political forces in Iraq to the negotiation table and establish consensus as regards the ways of further development of the political process in the country.
The minister believes that "efforts in this direction must be continued, and the convocation of an international conference is one of the ways Russia suggests that its partners consider for restoration of the national consensus and reconciliation."
"This is particularly important on the threshold of elections in Iraq, which are scheduled to take place next year," concluded Mr. Lavrov.
