"The decision to erect a monument to legendary Baron Munchhausen was taken following the visit by Bodenwerder's mayor Herbert Broekel to Kaliningrad. The sculpture will be placed in the Central Park of Culture and Recreation," the press service reported.
The design of the monument is still unknown. Bodenwerder, the birthplace of Baron Munchhausen, has an equestrian statue-fountain. Experts from Kaliningrad and Bodenwerder are involved in the project, the press service added.
Baron Munchhausen features in the books of German writers Erich Raspe, Gottfried Burger, Karl Immermann, etc. He is a boaster and liar who tells about his fantastic adventures and travels. Baron Karl Hieronimus von Munchhausen who served in the Russian army in the 18th century is believed to be his prototype. According to Kaliningrad researchers, this baron often visited Koenigsberg (today Kaliningrad), the former capital of Eastern Prussia. The city passed to the Soviet Union after World War II.
