MOSCOW, April 23 (RIA Novosti). Moscow hopes that the Chechen issue in the UN commission on human rights has been closed once and for all.

At the latest meeting of UN commission on human rights, the European Union submitted a draft resolution on the situation in Chechnya. This draft was turned down by the majority vote.

"We hope that the Chechen issue in the UN commission on human rights has been closed once and for all", Russian deputy foreign minister Yuri Fedotov told a press-conference in RIA Novosti. "It is too politicized and is of a confrontational character," he said.

In particular, there are examples of politically motivated initiatives which have nothing to do with the tasks of upholding human rights, noted Mr. Fedotov.
