He reported about his intention to meet with the Bolshoi management with the purpose of jointly estimating the situation rather than for any kind of inspection.
"I want to learn whether the current bias toward visiting productions, toward the restoration of authentic style which prevailed at the time of a work's creation, is really justified," said the minister.
He made a point of the theatre's problems being not only those of financing and the state of the building. "There are also problems of the change of generations, the repertoire, the state of the orchestra, chorus and corps de ballet," specified Sokolov.
"I don't think that everything is O.K. in the Bolshoi Theare which is a national shrine," concluded the culture minister.
