MOSCOW, April 6, 2004. (RIA Novosti) - The struggle against the current threats and challenges is the main and common task for all Caspian states, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov told journalists after a meeting between the foreign ministers of the Caspian states.

He pointed out that the participants in the meeting highlighted the joint actions of the Caspian states to resist international terrorism, drug trafficking, organized crime and other threats and challenges.

"Only by common efforts can we withstand these threats. We need a structure for combating terrorism," said Iranian Foreign Minister Kamal Harrazi.

Iran supports "the reorientation of the positions of the Caspian states concerning the militarization of the Caspian region so as to select the necessary mechanisms, equipment and technology for an efficient fight against terrorism," Mr. Harrazi said.
