HANKALA, April 1, 2004 (RIA Novosti) - In Ingushetia (neighboring Chechnya), two men connected to Shamil Basayev and Abu al Valid, leaders of Chechen bandit groups, were killed, said Colonel Ilya Shabalkin, a representative of the regional headquarters for counter terrorist operations in the North Caucasus.

"During a joint operation in Nazran, which included Interior Ministry and FSB divisions, active members of bandit groups, Ruslan Eldiev, a couier, and his authorized representative, Musa Aksagov from Vladikavkaz, where killed when they rendered armed resistance," Col. Shabalkin said.

During a search of the insurgents' homes, video footage of Moscow's life lines and footage of a 2003 terrorist attack in the Pervomaisky settlement in the Grozny area of Chechnya were found, the representative said.

Forged passports, weapons, computers and a digital video camera were also seized.

According to the headquarters' data, Mr. Eldiev was a courier for bandit groups led by Basayev, Abu al Valid and Abu Dzeit. He was involved in the preparation of terrorist attacks in and outside of Chechnya. He was also the organizer and spreader of propaganda intended to increase ethnic tensions, Col. Shabalkin said. Mr. Eldiev made printed and video reports that were sent abroad.
