BERLIN TALKS REAFFIRM CLOSENESS OF RUSSIA AND GERMANY

MOSCOW, April 1, 2004. (RIA Novosti) - Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder and German Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer discussed furthering Russian-German relations at a meeting in Berlin yesterday.

The parties agreed that their countries' relations were developing gradually in all areas. Among other things, they discussed prospects for the further implementation of agreements adopted at the inter-state consultations in Yekaterinburg, Russia in 2003.

The two foreign ministers noted the closeness or concurrence of their countries' positions on current international issues. They focused on the most pressing problems, including the developments in the Middle East, Iraq and the latest developments in Kosovo, reported the Russian Foreign Ministry.
