TALLINN, March 20, 2004. (RIA Novosti correspondent Nikolai Adashkevich). Residents of Narva (an Estonian town on the border with Russia's Leningrad region) were awarded with medals "In Memory of St. Petersburg's 300th anniversary" on behalf of Russian President Vladimir Putin. Russian Consul General in Narva Yuri Popov handed the awards to 47 Narva residents who were decorated with medals "For Leningrad's Defense" (Leningrad is the former name of St. Petersburg).

Warriors who defended Leningrad in 1941-1944 and home front workers are among those awarded, the Russian Consulate General said.

"People will always remember the greatness of your feat," Yuri Popov said.
