TBILISI, March 17, 2004. (RIA Novosti) -- Mikhail Saakashvili should arrive in Batumi to settle the Adzharian crisis, the Novosti-Georgia information agency cited speaker of the Georgian parliament Nino Burdzhanadze as saying.

"I absolutely sure that the arrival of Georgian president Mikhail Saakashvili in Adzharia is necessary," Ms. Burdzhanadze declared upon arrival in the Batumi airport.

She also stressed that the Georgian President should freely move throughout the entire country, in the territory of any of its regions.

"I hope that the meeting between the Georgian President and head of Adzharia will help solve many questions facing us," the Speaker of the Parliament said.

On Wednesday a meeting began in the premises of the Supreme Council of the autonomy between Nino Burdzhanadze and head of Adzharia Aslan Abashidze.

"The main task is to solve the existing problems by peaceful means, by way of negotiations, to restore the constitutional legality on the entire territory of Georgia," Ms. Burdzhanadze declared.

"It is very important for us that just and normal parliamentary elections scheduled for March 28 be held throughout Georgia, Adzharia included," she pointed out.
