CIS INTER-PARLIAMENTARY ASSEMBLY TO MEET IN ST. PETERSBURG

ST. PETERSBURG, March 17, 2004 (RIA Novosti) - Three permanent commissions of the CIS Inter-parliamentary Assembly (MPA) will have sessions in the Tavrichesky Palace of St. Petersburg, the Assembly's headquarters, on March 17-18, the MPA's press service reported.

On Wednesday, the permanent commission for the agrarian policy, natural resources and environment will consider a series of model draft laws, including On social security of citizens suffering from radioactive pollution and nuclear tests and On biological safety.

In addition, the commission will highlight the draft concept of the model Environment Code and the draft concept of the model Land Code, and also continue the work over the draft concept of the model Water Code.

Besides, the commission's work over the draft model law On folk medicine and over the draft concept of the model law On HIV/AIDS prevention in the CIS nations will be summed up.

On Thursday, March 18, the permanent MPA commission for economy and finances will gather for a session. Its agenda will feature draft recommendations of the CIS MPA for harmonising legislation of CIS financial markets operation and for upgrading the system of trademarks' protection in the CIS countries.
