DIALOGUE NEEDED TO SETTLE GEORGIAN-ADZHARIAN CONFLICT

BAKU, March 16, 2004. (RIA Novosti) -- Dialogue is needed to settle the Georgian-Adzharian conflict, OSCE Chairman-in-office, Bulgarian Foreign Minister Solomon Pasi told a press conference in Baku.

According to Mr. Pasi, during his stay in Georgia he met with President Mikhail Saakashvili and Adzharian leader Aslan Abashidze and called on them for peaceful settlement.

"We (OSCE representatives) asked them to settle the conflict by peaceful means," Mr. Pasi said.

"I am still optimistic about peaceful settlement," he stressed.

In his words, the OSCE is to sent a short-term mission of 80-90 observers to the forthcoming parliamentary elections in Georgia on March 28th.
