MOSCOW, March 16, 2004. (RIA Novosti) -- Head of Adzharia (Georgia's autonomy) Aslan Abashidze may be physically eliminated in a special operation, Dmitri Rogozin, Chairman of the Fatherland faction in the State Duma, said to journalists on Tuesday, referring to information from Adzharia-found deputies of his faction.
"There is a slim chance of a direct military clash in Adzharia, but our deputies believe that a special operation can be held to physically eliminate Aslan Abashidze," Mr. Rogozin said.
Deputies Victor Alksnis and Andrei Savelyev went to Adzharia on Sunday night and reporting to him by telephone information about the local situation.
"I hope they will provide constructive help in resolving the crisis," Mr. Rogozin said.
He promised to give journalists more information after Alksnis and Saveliev are back from Adzharia.
