SOUTH KOREAN PREMIER CONGRATULATES PUTIN ON HIS RE-ELECTION

TOKYO/BEIJING, March 16, 2004. (RIA Novosti) -- On Tuesday South Korean Acting President and Prime Minister Ko Kon congratulated Vladimir Putin on his re-election to the second presidential term and expressed hope for a successful development of relations with Moscow.

Premier Ko Kon hopes for Russian and South Korean joint efforts to establish peace and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region, a spokesman for the South Korean Foreign Ministry told journalists.

According to the spokesman, the Russian-South Korean relations need further development in the important year of 2004 marking the 120th anniversary of the Russian-Korean trade agreement and the 140th anniversary of the official beginning of mass Korean immigration to Russia's Far East.
