"Preliminary results of the vote have graphically shown Russians' high civil position and unconditional choice of the country's further progress towards democratic reforms and all-out consolidation of Russia's statehood," Mr. Voronin's message says.
"I'm sure that your qualities of a talented politician and state figure, who was highly assessed to the point of re-election, will continue to serve the cause of Russia's prosperity, the growing welfare of its citizens and the consolidation of the country's prestige in international affairs," the Moldovan president wrote.
Mr. Voronin also expressed the hope for "further mutually advantageous interaction between Moldova and the Russian Federation for the good of both countries and their peoples."
