ST PETERSBURG, March 14 (RIA Novosti). A helicopter will be dispatched to save fishermen who are drifting on a block of ice in the Gulf of Finland, RIA was told in the North-Western Regional Centre of the Emergencies Ministry. A Khivus rescue hovercraft had been sent to them but strong wind and current are pushing the block from the neve. Consequently, it was decided to send a helicopter to their rescue.
According to fresh information, there are about 50 fishermen on the block. The news about 40 fishermen on a block of ice that broke off outside Krasnoflotsk, Lomonosov District of Leningrad Region, was telephoned to the officer on duty at 12:40. The report was made by one of the fishermen.
