MOSCOW, MARCH 12, 2004, RIA NOVOSTI - Patriarch Alexis II of Moscow and All Russia has sent a message of condolences to Spanish Prime Minister Jose Maria Aznar and King Juan Carlos I following a series of bomb explosions on Madrid-bound commuter trains.

Millions of people in Russia and across the world are mourning for those killed and wounded in yesterday's train bombings in the Spanish capital, Alexis II says in his message. He expresses hope that the Spanish leaders will do everything possible to help their fellow countrymen cope with the aftermath of this appalling atrocity, and calls on the global community to rally against terrorism. The Russian prelate says he is praying to God that the bereaved families will have enough strength and courage to endure the pain of their irreparable loss.
