PUTIN GREETS GEODESY AND CARTOGRAPHY WORKERS

MOSCOW, March 12, 2004. (RIA Novosti) -- Russian President Vladimir Putin sent a message of greetings to participants and guests of a ceremonial meeting devoted to the Day of Geodesy and Cartography Workers, the press service of the head of state told RIA Novosti on Friday.

The message says, in particular: "Several generations of this service's employees have conducted unique world-level investigations, fulfilled large-scale works in cartography of vast territories of the country and in creating the national geodesic network.

Today as well, the high precision topographic measurements are the necessary condition for perfecting the social and economic infrastructure, the means of communications and hence for the dynamic development of Russia." Vladimir Putin expressed confidence that the "Russian surveyors and cartographers will continue greatly contribute to the solution of these important scientific and practical tasks."
