MOSCOW, MARCH 10 (RIA NOVOSTI) - Russia's Financial Monitoring Committee passed 175 files on 18,387 suspicious transactions to law enforcement agencies last year - as against 60 files on 4,090 instances for 2002. The files concerned alleged corporate and private money laundering and terror financing, the committee says in a press release which appeared on its official web site to sum up today's enlarged-attendance board session. The committee tracks down skyrocketing figures to a spectacular improvement of its information analyses.

Criminal proceedings were launched on eleven cases last year, proceeding from committee reports on 230 financial transactions to a total 1.6 billion rubles, roughly $60 million, as against four cases to 1.2 billion rubles the year before. Verdicts have been made for today on several cases based on committee evidence.

At present, the committee database concerns 1.5 million transactions to an approximate total of 14.5 trillion rubles to exceed 2002 indices fourfold.
