MOSCOW, March 10, 2004. (RIA Novosti) -- Former head of the State Committee on Sports Vyacheslav Fetisov positively commented on the decision to establish a Federal Agency on Physical Culture, Sports and Tourism. On Tuesday president Vladimir Putin announced this decision taken within the government's reorganization. He abolished the State Committee on Sports along with a number of other government departments.

The new federal agency has a higher status than the abolished committee, Vyacheslav Fetisov, a famous Russian ice-hockey player in the past, noted. Besides that, the new structure has acquired new functions, in the sphere of tourism in particular, and "it is highly promising direction," Fetisov believes.

He refused to discuss the question of who will head the new agency. In Fetisov's opinion, "such an important direction as physical culture and sport will not remain without the leader for a long time," and the name of its new head will be announced in the immediate future.
