ALEKSEY GORDEYEV APPOINTED RUSSIAN MINISTER OF AGRICULTURE AND FISHERY

MOSCOW, March 9, 2004. (RIA Novosti) - Russian acting President Vladimir Putin signed order to appoint Aleksey Gordeyev Russian Minister of Agriculture and Fishery. Mr. Gordeyev used to occupy the post of Russian Agriculture Minister in the former government.

Mr. Gordeyev was born February 28th, 1955 in Frankfurt (Oder), Germany.

In 1978 graduated from Moscow Railway Institute majoring as "railways engineer." In 1992 graduated from State Agriculture Academy majoring as "leading specialist in management." Started his working career in 1980 as foreman in one of the construction departments in Moscow.

1981-1986 - leading specialist, department head, deputy head of Main Provisional Department of Ministry of Agriculture of Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic.

1986 - Deputy Head of Department of production and package distribution of State Agriculture Industry of Russian Soviet Federative Socialist Republic.

1986-1992 - Deputy General-Director of well-known agricultural plant "Moskva" in the Moscow region.

1992-1997 - Deputy Administration Head of the Lyuberetsky district in the Moscow region.

1997-1998 - First Deputy Minister of Russian Agriculture and Food Ministry.

Since August 19th, 1999 - Russian Minister of Agriculture and Food; and since May 20th, 2000 was also appointed as Russian Vice Premier.

Chairs the public organization "Russian Agrarian Movement" and is the member of the supreme council of the United Russia political party.

He is a candidate of economic sciences, prominent Russian economist.

Married and has two children - a daughter and a son.
