PUTIN APPOINTS RUSSIAN CABINET

MOSCOW, March 9, 2004 (RIA Novosti correspondent) - Vladimir Putin has signed decrees to appoint the Russian cabinet, the Kremlin press service reported.

Alexander Zhukov has been appointed Deputy Prime Minister.

German Gref - Economic Development and Trade Minister;

Dmitry Kozak - head of the government staff - Minister of the Russian Federation;

Sergei Shoigu - Minister for Civil Defence, Emergencies and Natural Disasters;

Sergei Ivanov - Defence Minister;

Sergei Lavrov - Foreign Minister;

Yuri Chaika - Justice Minister;

Rashid Nurgaliyev - Interior Minister;

Mikhail Zurabov - Health and Social Development Minister;

Yuri Trutnev - Minister of Natural Resources;

Igor Levitin - Minister of Transport and Communications;

Alexei Kudrin - Finance Minister;

Alexei Gordeyev - Minister of Agriculture and Fishing;

Alexander Sokolov - Minister of Culture and Mass Communications;

Viktor Khristenko - Minister of Industry and Energy;

Andrei Fursenko - Minister of Education and Science.

The decrees have been signed in line with point D, Article 83 of the Constitution of the Russian Federation and will take effect on the day of signing, the Kremlin press service reported.

The press service of the head of state also said that the president's decree On the System and Structure of the Federal Executive Bodies was about to be issued.
