YUZHNO-SAKHALINSK, May 9 (RIA Novosti correspondent) - About 2,000 voters in Sakhalin and the Kuril Islands (Russia's Far East) have taken part in the early presidential elections in Russia, the local election commission told RIA Novosti on Tuesday.

The commission has received diagrams from 63 Sakhalin fishing vessels where the early elections were held. 1,490 voters took part in the poll.

Voting is continuing in remote border posts and light stations on the Kuril Islands, and in remote settlements, weather stations and oil rigs of Sakhalin.

The local commission has also reported that members of the commission would fly aboard a helicopter on March 10 to the naval ice-resistant oil and gas platform, Molikapak, of the Sakhalin Energy company where Russian citizens are working. The platform is located on the northeastern shelf of the island where the Sakhalin-2 large-scale oil and gas project is being implemented.

This campaign will last into March 13, and its results will be calculated next evening.
