PARIS, March 5, 2004 (RIA Novosti correspondent) - Russia is ready to conduct peacekeeping operations with the EU, acting Defence Minister Sergei Ivanov said in Paris on Friday.

In his words, "the main thing is to agree on what we want to achieve as a result of these operations, and the goal we pursue: police or peacemaking." After then, we'll be able to work out such operations, said Sergei Ivanov.

He remarked, "relations with Nato are more developed in this area than with the EU." However, Moscow is not opposing co-operation with these organisations and will develop them in parallel," said the Russian defence minister.
