UPCOMING ELECTIONS DO NOT LACK THE ALTERNATIVE

MOSCOW, March 4 (RIA Novosti) - Head of the Central Election Commission of Russia, Alexander Veshnyakov called groundless the affirmation that the presidential elections would present no real alternative to the voters. "This is a pure invention of particular persons," Mr. Veshnyakov told the press conference on Thursday.

At the same time, he said that the upcoming March 14 elections were not that spotless and stressed that election campaign couldn't be spotless in itself.

"A good example of this is the French election campaign presenting two candidates with one of them being Le Pen," Mr. Veshnyakov said.

According to Mr. Veshnyakov, every presidential hopeful has an opportunity to present his or her programmes in the state television channels, but they failed to develop information space given to them. To prove it, Mr. Veshnyakov mentioned his recent visit to Russian regions, where he had seen it for himself that the free air-time granted to all candidates were not used for their election campaigning.
