ARMS CACHE UNCOVERED ON RUSSIAN-GEORGIAN BORDER

STAVROPOL, March 3 (RIA Novosti) - Russian frontier guards discovered a cache of weapons and munitions in the Chechen section of Russia's border with Georgia.

The North Caucasus Department of the Federal Security Service (FSB) told RIA Novosti that the cache was in a mountain crevice and that is was mined. A field engineer diffused an antitank mine at the entrance to the cache.

The cache contained two Kalashnikov submachine guns, over 300 Kalashnikov submachine gun cartridges, several hand grenades and a NATO camouflage uniform.

Over the last year, Russian frontier guards have destroyed about 80 militant hideouts and caches in the North Caucasus, which contained a large quantity of small arms, about 68,000 units of munitions and 30 kilograms of explosives.
