MOSCOW, March 3, 2004. (RIA Novosti) - On Wednesday Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Doku Zavgayev discussed some issues of developing Russian-Algerian relations with Algeria's Ambassador to Moscow Amar Abbu, RIA Novosti learned from the Foreign Ministry's information and press department.

It is the first meeting of this level that Zavgayev has held in the new capacity. He was appointed deputy foreign minister on February 18th.

Zavgayev is responsible for administrative, economic and financial issues. However, according to the ministry's official spokesman Alexander Yakovenko, "like all deputy ministers, Zavgayev will fulfill foreign-policy tasks as well".

The Russian Foreign Ministry employs experts from different areas, making efficient use of their rich experience and knowledge, Yakovenko emphasized.

"As to Zavgayev, he has received a great experience of diplomatic work after having been Russia's Ambassador in Tanzania for seven years, which gives him an opportunity to clearly understand the problems and tasks of diplomatic work. On the other hand, he has a serious experience of economic activities," Yakovenko pointed out.

Zavgayev has received an economic education and is a candidate of economic sciences.
