MOSCOW, March 3, 2004 (RIA Novosti) - The Moscow authorities have set up an expert commission to assess the safety of large span, high-rise and other unusual buildings, which have been recently constructed or are being designed, in line with a relevant resolution of Moscow Mayor Yury Luzhkov.

The commission was formed in the wake of the recent water park tragedy in southwestern Moscow. The roof of the swimming centre, which was built 2 years ago, caved in on February 14, killing 28 people.

The commission will be headed by First Deputy Mayor Vladimir Resin.

The list of buildings that will undergo inspection will be compiled before March 25, the Moscow government told RIA Novosti.

The Moscow authorities plan to engage Russian, as well as foreign experts in the inspection efforts.
