MOSCOW, March 2 (RIA Novosti) - During a UN Security Council meeting devoted to the situation in Haiti, the deputy permanent representative of Russia to the UN, Alexander Konuzin, said that Russia is concerned about the situation in Haiti.

According to the Russian diplomat, Moscow shares the international community's grave concern about the wave of violence and human rights violations that is sweeping over Haiti.

Moscow emphatically condemned the acts of violence in Haiti and called upon all healthy forces of Haitian society to stop violence and to start a peaceful dialogue. The diplomat said, "this will enable the existing differences and problems to be overcome by political means, on democratic constitutional principles."

He stressed that Russia backed the international community's efforts to provide the necessary assistance to the Haitians.
