MOSCOW, MARCH 1, RIA NOVOSTI - Russia is willing to promote Haitian settlement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs press and information department says in a statement.

Russia approves UN Security Council resolution No. 1529, and will work on together with the international community to bring life in Haiti back to normal, reassures the document.

Unanimously adopted by the United Nations Security Council yesterday, February 29, the resolution demands interim international peacekeeping forces urgent deployed in the island for the next three months to promote settlement.

Made in response to an appeal by Boniface Alexandre, Haiti's acting President, which complies with the national Constitution, the resolution aims to promote political settlement efforts of the Organisation of American States and the Caribbean Community, says the ministry.

The resolution provides explicit international legal terms to get Haiti out of its current crisis and guarantee constitutional order. It shows that the UN Security Council is capable of quick and effective response to critical developments in the world.

The statement calls all Haitian political forces to put an end to violence, respect authority constitutionally passed to new president Boniface Alexandre, and offer all-round co-operation to international peacekeepers to stabilise developments in Haiti, ensure political progress within legal limits, and overcome dire humanitarian consequences of the crisis.
