MOSCOW, MARCH 1 (RIA NOVOSTI) - The automated state system Elections is ready for the holding of the March 14 presidential elections in Russia, Alexander Veshnyakov, chairman of the Central Election Commission, said Monday.

The full-scale drill on February 27 for organizers of the election showed that "the system is 100-percent operable." Over 100,000 people were involved, including 10,000 specialists operating the Elections system.

"For the first time ever the drill was held in conditions close to real life," Mr. Veshnyakov said. First of all, the readiness of district election commissions for the execution of summary protocols was checked, he said. The goal set in the drill was within three hours to feed in the Election system about 94,000 summary protocols from the polling stations and tabulate them in the Central Election Commission.

"The task was almost 99 percent solved," said the head of the Russian CEC.
