RIGA, February 27 (RIA Novosti corr. Anatoly Baranovsky) - The Latvian foreign ministry distributed a statement on Friday in which it explained the reasons behind the denial of entry visa to State Duma Vice Speaker Dmitry Rogozin. The Russian politician intended to take part in the all-Latvian congress of Russian schools' defenders, scheduled for March 6.

The Latvian foreign ministry sees Rogozin's visit as "untimely in these conditions." The statement says "Rogozin's statements do not testify to his desire to develop a constructive dialogue with Latvia." "Dmitry Rogozin accused the Latvian government many times of violating the Russian-speaking population's rights, threatened to use economic sanctions and said the nazi came to power in Latvia," the statement reads.

The Latvian foreign ministry welcomed the initiative of Latvian parliament chairwoman Ingrida Udre who sent an invitation to State Duma speaker Boris Gryzlov to pay an official visit to Latvia.
