BRUSSELS, February 27, 2004 (RIA Novosti correspondent Alexander Shishlo) -- The European Union comes out for "wide partnership" on the peaceful settlement of the conflict between Chisinau and Tiraspol (the capital of the self-proclaimed Transdniestrian Moldovan Republic with mixed Russian-speaking population) and on Moldova's future state structure with consideration of Russia's interests.

Foreign affairs spokesman of the European Commission Diego de Ojeda announced this at a briefing on Friday.

According to him, the situation in Moldova will be on the agenda of the forthcoming visit to Washington by EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana, European Commissioner in Charge of External Relations Chris Patten and Irish Foreign Ministry Brian Cowen.

The talks in Washington will focus on the developments in the Middle East, Bosnia, Iraq, Iran and Afghanistan, Diego de Ojeda said.
