MOSCOW, February 26, 2004 (RIA Novosti)-Acting Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov said that Russia was not involved in the death of Zelimkhan Yandarbiyev (a Chechen separatist leader) in Doha.

"We do not know about what happened to Yandarbiyev. Terrorists live on the laws of their own. We do not know why the incident occurred. We did not do this," Mr. Ivanov said in an interview with Al-Arabiya

The acting minister said that Yandarbiyev was on a list of international terrorists. "All peaceful nations are obliged to hand over terrorists on that list to the country that has charged the terrorist," noted Mr. Ivanov.

He recalled that Moscow had insisted the Yandarbiyev be extradited to Russia where he faced charges of terrorism.
