BLINI SHOW IN MOSCOW CANCELLED

MOSCOW, February 19 (RIA Novosti). The blini show which was supposed to occur on Thursday during the Shrovetide (Maslenitsa) week celebrations in the center of Moscow has been cancelled, the Moscow government said.

The organizational committee decided not to hold celebrations while the Moscow government was mourning for people killed in the water park tragedy in Yasenevo.

On Saturday evening, the Transvaal water park dome collapsed killing 26 people and injuring dozens.

According to the committee, the Shrovetide Town on the Vasilyevsky Spusk near Red Square will continue to sell blini and souvenirs, but there will be no concerts or entertainment events.

Shrovetide week on Vasilyevsky spusk began on February 16. On Thursday, an attempt to break the world record for the tallest blini pile was planned.

Last Shrovetide, a 7 meter tall column of blini was built on Vasilyevsky spusk.
