RUSSIAN JUNIORS WIN GOLD AT EUROPEAN KARATE CHAMPIONSHIP IN CROATIA

MOSCOW, 14 February, 2004. /RIA Novosti correspondent Dmitry Budanov/. - Russia's national junior team has won gold medals in the junior kumite team competition at the 31st European Karate Championship for Cadets and Juniors currently held under the World Karate Organization (WKO) version, in Rijeka, Croatia.

A spokesperson for the Russian Karate Federation told RIA Novosti that in the finals the Russian team, including Andrei Potapov (Tyumen, Siberia), Gadji Yakhyayev, Saigidmagomed Shakhrudinov (both from Makhachkala, North Caucasus), Roman Tushdiyev (Samara, Volga Region), Soslan Guriyev (Vladikavkaz, North Caucasus), Alexander Lysov (Novosibirsk, Siberia) and Evgeny Gurbo (Tyumen, Siberia), defeated their French counterparts. In the semi-finals, Russia beat Spain.
