GROZNY, February 12, 2004. (RIA Novosti) - Law enforcement officers and Federal servicemen eliminated several terrorists' bases in Chechnya, Regional Staff of the control on the antiterrorist operation in the North Caucasus reported.

"A terrorist base, which can house 20 people, was discovered and eliminated in the Serzhen-Yurt village of the Shali region. The base consisted of 2 dug-outs and 2 observation posts," the source disclosed.

Mortar bombs, 6 hand grenades, medicine, literature in the Arabic language and approximately 30 kg of provisions were confiscated from the base. The confiscated ammo and terrorists' belongings were destroyed on the spot.

The reinforced location for the long-term stationing of terrorists, intended for 10-12 people, was discovered in the Urus-Martan district. In the course of the location inspection a dug-out, 3 security trenches and 2 observation posts were found. Federal special task troops detected a terrorist base in the vicinity of the Stary Ankhoi village. Local citizens revealed to the troops the possible location of the base.

"Automatic weapons fire was opened against the troops, when they were inspecting the dug-out. Two terrorists were killed as a result of the clash," the source said.

"The Federal troops believe that the killed terrorists prepared the base for the so-called armed formation "implacable", and were waiting for them to come any moment. The Federal troops set an ambush near the base," the source added.
