MOSCOW, February 12 (RIA Novosti) - Russia's foreign partners see it as an important participant of world processes contributing to the balance on the international arena, Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov said Thursday at an extended session of the State Duma international committee.

Ivanov said Russia participates in this quality in the fight against international terrorism and in the resolution of other global problems, including the development of international law norms.

Russia is an active participant in the search for the solution to the most urgent global and regional problems, the foreign minister said. He mentioned such issues as the strengthening of the weapons nonproliferation regime, the lifting of tensions around the DPRK's and Iran's nuclear programs, the settlement of the Mideast problem.

The minister pointed out to Russia's role in joining the globalization process, in particular, preparation for Russia's chairmanship at the session of the G8 member countries in 2006.

Igor Ivanov noted the strengthening of Russia's partnership with the EU countries, including with France, Germany and Italy. In his words, the so-called common spaces in the economic, legal and security fields uniting Russia with the "Greater Europe" have been outlined.
