MOSCOW, February 10, 2004. (RIA Novosti). No state can compete with Russia in its influence in Georgia, President of Georgia Mikhail Saakashvili said.

Nobody will be able to compete with Russia in Georgia if Moscow's approach is pragmatic, he pointed out.

Speaking before the students and professors of the Moscow Institute of International Relations (MGIMO) Saakashvili stressed that the Georgian people are waiting from the newly-elected president stable security inside the country and on its external borders. "And who can ensure Georgia's security best of all? Russia, of course," Saakashvili said.

According to him, the people of Georgia are sick and tired of enemies and want stability and sustainable development in Georgia. And the sustainable development means, first of all, an economically strong state," the Georgian President opines.

"The creation of a strong state leads to getting access to foreign markets. And guess, what is Georgia's nearest external market: America, Australia or Russia? " Saakashvilli told the students.

According to the Georgian president, accompanying him on his Moscow visit are the "lord of the Georgian beer" and "the Georgian lord of the tea". All of them want to get access to the Russian market. Besides there are Georgian brands which are well known in Russia and unknown in the United States, such as "Khvanchkhara, and Kindzmarauli", Saakashvili pointed out. These brands should find their way to Russia.

According to Saakashvili Georgia is ready for open and more effective cooperation with Russia. "You can come to terms with me. I will never go against the interests of Georgia but will do my utmost for even smallest of Russian interests to be taken into account because this is in line with our security's interests," Saakashvili said.
