MOSCOW, February 9 (RIA Novosti) - Russian President Vladimir Putin said the state does not plan to reorganize the Russian Academy of Sciences, however, its activity should be more efficient.

The Russian leader said at a session of the presidential Council for science and high technologies that there were "extremely dangerous" plans of reorganizing the academy, which could have led to its liquidation. "These plans are not backed by the country's political leadership and won't be realized," said the president.

He said it's necessary to think over how to make the academy's activities more efficient.

Putin supported the idea of creation in the country of scientific educational centers by means of uniting state universities in Russian regions with local Academy of Sciences departments.

The management of the Russian Academy of Sciences' Siberian department, situated in Novosibirsk in West Siberia's south, suggested this.
